In October 1986, QE2 sailed to Bremerhaven, Germany. There she would undergo a massive conversion encompassing machinery and passenger spaces.
Primarily, the biggest change would be her engines. QE2 had sailed since 1969 as a steamship and would now be converted to diesel. This major undertaking would extend her life into the 21st Century.
Not to be overlooked were the changes in her interiors. QE2 was a space age liner from the sixties. Keeping her up to date with the times, it was decided to renovate large portions of her interiors. The look of this period would again go through numerous changes through out the 1990s until her final incarnation in the 21st century.
These photos focus on that initial period after her re-engining during a summer visit to New York City in 1987.
