Lloyd's has a special association with the Cunard Queens -
in 1936 and in 1939 they presented sets of ships' bells
(including two 24 inch bells weighing 350 lb. Each) to RMS
Queen Mary and RMS Queen Elizabeth.
RMS Queen Elizabeth 2 would also receive a special gift
from Lloyd's. But this time it has taken the unusual form of
a Britannia figurehead.
Carved in Quebec yellow Pine by Cornish sculptor Charles
Moore, the figurehead measures some 6 feet high and 2
feet 6 inches diameter, and weighs over 300 lb. It has been
designed as a special feature to stand inside the Britannia Restaurant and was bolted into position 2 feet above the deck. When this restaurant became the Tables of the World in the 1970s, the figurehead was featured in the Starboard entrance on Upper Deck.
